Body-in-White Side Panel Hot Stamping Die Project
Challenge
The client needed a hot stamping die set for B-pillar and side panel reinforcements of a new SUV model. Part tensile strength required ≥1500MPa with uniform hardness across all sections (±30HV). Die needed integrated cooling system, cycle time requirement ≤18 seconds/piece.
Solution
Used thermal-mechanical-phase transformation coupled simulation to optimize cooling channel layout for uniform quenching. Selected DIEVAR hot work die steel with specialized heat treatment. Designed segmented independent cooling circuits for precise zone temperature control. Integrated multi-point thermocouple real-time monitoring in-die.
Result
Part tensile strength consistently at 1550±30MPa, hardness uniformity ±25HV, exceeding requirements. Production cycle time of 16 seconds/piece, die life of 250,000 strokes. Project received high praise from client's global technical review team.
